Using the Winkler method, your class will measure and analyze the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration of various water samples at different temperatures to understand the physical factors that affect gas solubility in water. Additionally, they'll measure and analyze the primary productivity in a pond water ecosystem, using a variety of screens to simulate the decrease of light experienced in a pond with increasing depth. The investigation's extensive background section includes coverage of the biological importance of oxygen and carbon cycles in the ecosystem, along with how primary productivity relates to the metabolism of organisms within such a system.
